History and Development of Computer Mouse

A mouse is a tool used to enter data into a computer other than a keyboard. Mouse gets that name because the protruding cable is shaped like a rat's tail.
And has a main function is to move the cursor. The one with an arrow. As you can see in front of your computer monitor. Or it can be changed if passing certain form, for example into a vertical black line when you type in MS word or write a post on the blog. It also has another function that gives the command that is left click and right click.

MOUSE DEFINITION
Mouse, or "Rat" in standard Indonesian terms, is one of the hardware (hardware) in a computer, which functions as the primary input device other than the keyboard. Mouse is categorized as a Pointing Device (pointing device / selector). The cursor movement on the screen represents the movement of the mouse device itself. By hovering the mouse over a specific icon / GUI (Graphic User Interface), then executing the command by clicking it, a user can execute certain commands on his computer program.
Mouse is an input tool that serves to move the pointer on the monitor screen to run a program or icon commands on the screen by clicking left, right click, double click, drag and drop, or scroll lock.

MOUSE HISTORY
The mouse was first discovered in 1963, by an American inventor from the Stanford Research Institute, named Dr. Douglas C. Engelbart. The first mouse is a very simple device. Made of wood, has one small button on the upper right, then has two small iron wheels inside it. At that time, this tool is named official "X-Y position indicator for a display system" (X-Y position indicator for a display system). Because of the shape that has a long cable, and resembles a mouse, the tool is then called "mouse" (Rat). The screen cursor actually has the name "bug" (insect). But this name does not become too popular.
Initially, Douglas tries to find another Pointing Device, like a tool driven by a chin or a nose. However, the mouse is considered the simplest and easiest to use.
About this mouse, then developed by Apple computer company, Inc. (Macintosh operating system developer). Therefore, it was Apple who finally got the patent from mouse usage.
Judging from the types of mouse ports, there are 4 kinds of mouse:

Serial Mouse
Mouse that has been rarely used by the general public. Usually this mouse is used on Pentium 1 and Pentium 2 computers.

Mouse PS / 2
Mouse used on Pentium 3 and Pentium 4 computers.

USB Mouse
Mouse that is commonly used by the public. Used on Pentium 3 and Pantium 4 computers.

Mouse Wirelless
The latest wireless mouse. Now Wireless Mouse is widespread among the public.

Judging from the sensor, there are 3 kinds of mouse:

1. Mechanical mouse, the mouse with a mechanical sensor in the form of a rubber / metal ball at the bottom of the mouse that can rotate all directions. The mechanical sensor detects the direction of the spin and moves the pointer / cursor on the screen in that direction.

2. Optical mouse, same with mechanical mouse but add optical sensor to detect movement of mouse ball.

3. Optical mouse, using laser beam or LED (Light Emitting Diode) to detect mouse movement.

1. MOUSE MECHANICAL (Mouse Ball)
Further development was done by Bill English at Xerox PARC in the early 1970s. It uses a ball that can rotate all directions, then round the ball is detected by the wheels of sensors inside the mouse. Development of this type then gave birth to Trackball type mouse, which is the type of reversed mouse where the user moves the ball with a finger, popular between 1980 and 1990. Xerox PARC also popularized the use of a two-handed QWERTY keyboard and use the mouse when needed.

2. OPTOMEKANIC MOUSE (Optical Mouse)
In addition to the mouse ball, currently widely used optical mouse. Optical mouse is superior to the ball mouse because it is more accurate and the maintenance is easier than the ball mouse. Optical mouse does not need to be cleaned, in contrast to the mouse ball that must be cleaned often because a lot of dust attached to the ball.
The first optical mouse was created by Steve Kirsch of Mouse Systems Corporation. This type of mouse uses LED (light emitting diode) and photo diode to detect mouse movement. The first optical mouse can be used on a special, blue-gray metallic striped mousepad.

3. OPTICAL MOUSE (Laser Mouse)

The laser mouse was first introduced by Logitech, the leading mouse company that collaborated with Agilent Technologies in 2004, under the name Logitech MX 1000. Logitech claims that the laser mouse has an accuracy rate 20 times larger than the optical mouse. The basic work of optical mouse and laser mouse is almost the same, the difference is only the use of a small laser instead of the LED is used by optical mouse. Currently the laser mouse has not been widely used, probably because the price is still expensive.

The workings of the mouse itself is by way of using a laser beam rays are invisible-there's a little bit seen. The emitted laser beam moves in the hands of the user. The laser beam turns on an optical sensor system just like on an ordinary optical mouse. Thousands of pictures taken within a second to know the movement of the mouse. The coordinates sent by the mouse are then used by the computer to position the pointer. The laser mouse has the same advantages over the mouse that uses the ball. When compared with ordinary optical mouse, laser mouse has an advantage. Laser mouse can be used almost anywhere, including where the optical mouse is hard to wear, for example on thighs wrapped in jeans. The laser mouse is perfect for traveling with a laptop because people do not have to carry a mouse pad, can be worn with any pedestal and (if wireless) is not complicated with cable.

Of all the development of the mouse, which has not changed much is the number of buttons. Every mouse has one till three buttons. The first mouse had one button. Most current mouse, designed for Microsoft Windows, has two buttons. Some modern mouse also have a Wheel to facilitate scrolling. Meanwhile, Apple introduced the one-button mouse, which has not changed until now.
Modern mouse also has a lot of wireless, using wireless technology such as Infra Red, radio waves or Bluetooth. The popular wireless mouse currently uses radio waves or Bluetooth. While the mouse that uses Infra Red less popular because of the limited range, but it is also less practical because between the mouse and the recipient should not be hindered.

maybe up here just tyentang discussion of mouse history
